Grants
Both the federal government and state agencies provide students with assistance in the form of grants, which do not have to be repaid. Grants are usually awarded based on your financial need. Regardless of where you go to college, you should complete the FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Additional forms may also be required depending on where you want to go to college and the type of aid you are seeking, but it is best to start with the FAFSA.
Federal Pell Grants
If you have financial need, you may qualify for a Pell Grant. Pell Grants are awarded to every undergraduate student who qualifies and may be used for tuition, fees and living expenses at any qualifying college in the country—even at schools with low fees, such as a community college. You may even receive a Pell Grant if you attend school part time.
