Together we can make a diffrence with California's nursing students There is a severe shortage of nurses state-wide -- if more students do not enter the nursing field, the State could face a crisis.

For this reason, ALL Student Loan created the Taking Care of California loan forgiveness program for California’s nursing students. Through Taking Care of California, we hope to encourage more students to pursue nursing as a career.

Here’s how the program works:

The program will assist low-income students throughout California in pursuing a career in nursing by forgiving a portion of their student loan debt with ALL Student Loan, after they complete their Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN).

1. Who is eligible to apply for the program?

Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:
• Be enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year college or university in California with an established nursing program.
• Plan to enroll in, and eventually obtain, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN).
• Plan to work in the nursing profession in California.
• Have financial need and be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant.
• Take out a Stafford loan with ALL Student Loan for the 2007-2008 academic year.

2. Can community college students apply for the program?

Yes, if they are transferring to a four-year college or university, and the loan incurred is for study at the four-year college or university.


3. What type of student loan must students take out with ALL Student Loan to qualify for this program?

Students must apply for a Stafford loan (subsidized or unsubsidized).


4. How much student loan debt will ALL Student Loan forgive?

ALL Student Loan will forgive up to $2,500 in Stafford loan debt after graduation.


5. What is the service commitment after recipients graduate?

Taking care of California does not require any type of service commitment after graduation.


6. What is the minimum GPA required for this program?

There is no minimum GPA requirement to apply for this program.


7. How can students obtain an application?

Students can contact their financial aid office, download a copy from www.takingcareofcalifornia.org, or call ALL Student Loan at (888) 271-9721 ext. 8817


8. What is the application deadline?

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout the 2007-2008 academic year, as long as funds remain available.
