Private/Independent Colleges

Established in 1851, California’s independent colleges and universities include more than 75 campuses, all accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Some of these schools include Loyola Marymount, USC and Chapman University. Private colleges are diverse in size, location and type of students served, so if you’re thinking about attending a private college, research the campus and see if the educational programs and student body are a good fit for you.

Unlike the UC and CSU system, private colleges and universities are characterized by their institutional autonomy, and usually have smaller class sizes. For more information on these schools, visit www.aiccu.edu.
